Signs a Dog is Going into Labor: What to Look Out For
As a dog owner, it’s important to be aware of the many signs that your pet is preparing for labor. Whether you’ve been expecting a litter from a planned breeding, or whether you’ve been surprised by an unexpected pregnancy, understanding the signs that your dog is going into labor is key to ensuring a successful delivery and healthy puppies.
The most obvious sign that your dog is going into labor is that her vulva will swell significantly. This swelling is the result of hormonal changes that are preparing her body for labor and delivery. In addition, you may also notice that she’s panting and pacing more than usual.
Another sign that your dog is preparing for labor is that her appetite will decline. As her body is preparing to give birth, she will naturally begin to lose her appetite and may even begin to vomit. Don’t be alarmed, as this is a natural part of the labor process.
