What is the Cost of a Bernese Mountain Dog?
The Bernese Mountain Dog is a large and gorgeous breed of dog, originally from the Swiss Alps. Their size and friendly nature make them a popular choice for pet owners. But before you take the plunge and bring one home, you need to know about the cost of owning a Bernese Mountain Dog. The good news is that, while they’re not cheap, they’re not overly expensive either.
The most expensive part of owning a Bernese Mountain Dog is the initial purchase price. Depending on where you buy your dog, this can range from $800 to $2,500. You should also factor in the cost of any additional items you need to buy for your dog, such as a crate, collar, and leash. These items can add up to around $250.
Once you’ve bought your Bernese Mountain Dog, you’ll need to factor in the cost of keeping them healthy. This includes vaccinations, flea and tick treatments, and regular checkups. To keep your dog in good health, you should expect to spend around $500 a year on vet bills.
When it comes to food, the cost of feeding your Bernese Mountain Dog can be quite expensive. High-quality dry dog food can cost anywhere from $50 to $150 per month. If you feed your dog wet food, the costs can be even higher.
Finally, you should also factor in the cost of grooming your Bernese Mountain Dog. Grooming can cost anywhere from $30 to $100, depending on the type of groom and how often you have it done. Plus, you may need to hire a professional groomer to do it. If so, this can add an additional $100 to the cost of grooming.
Conclusion
Owning a Bernese Mountain Dog can be expensive, but they are a beautiful and loyal breed of dog. The initial purchase price is the most expensive part, so if you’re on a tight budget you may want to look for a lower-priced pup. Once you’ve got your Bernese Mountain Dog, you should expect to spend around $850 a year on vet bills, food, and grooming. However, you’ll get years of love and companionship in return for your investment.
