Dogs Hygroma Treatment Costs: What You Should Know in 2023
Hygromas are fluid-filled cysts that form on the elbows of dogs due to excessive pressure and friction. They are most common in large-breed dogs, such as Labradors, Golden Retrievers, and German Shepherds. If left untreated, hygromas can become infected and cause pain and discomfort for your dog. Thankfully, there are a number of treatment options available to help reduce the discomfort and cost associated with treating hygromas. In this article, we’ll discuss the different treatments available, as well as their associated costs.
What Causes Hygromas?
Hygromas are caused by long-term pressure and friction on the elbow joint of a dog. Over time, this pressure causes a cyst to form filled with fluid. The cyst is usually located on the inside of the elbow joint and can range from the size of a pea to a golf ball. Hygromas are most commonly seen in large-breed dogs, such as Labradors, Golden Retrievers, and German Shepherds.
How Are Hygromas Treated?
There are a number of treatments available for hygromas, depending on the size and severity of the cyst. Surgical removal is the most common treatment, although it is also the most expensive. Non-surgical treatments, such as draining the cyst or using topical medications, can also be used to reduce the size of the cyst.
How Much Does Hygroma Treatment Cost?
The cost of treating a hygroma can vary greatly depending on the size of the cyst and the type of treatment required. Surgical removal of a hygroma is typically the most expensive option, with costs ranging from $500 to $2,000. Non-surgical treatments, such as draining the cyst or using topical medications, can cost anywhere from $100 to $500.
What Is the Recovery Time After Hygroma Treatment?
The recovery time after hygroma treatment depends on the type of treatment used. Surgery typically requires the longest recovery time, with the dog needing to be kept quiet and resting for several weeks. Non-surgical treatments, such as draining the cyst or using topical medications, usually require a much shorter recovery time of a few days to a week.
Conclusion
Hygromas are painful cysts that form on the elbows of dogs due to excessive pressure and friction. There are a number of treatments available to help reduce the discomfort and cost associated with treating hygromas, including surgical removal, draining the cyst, and using topical medications. The cost of treating a hygroma can vary greatly depending on the size of the cyst and the type of treatment required, with surgical removal typically being the most expensive option. The recovery time also varies depending on the type of treatment used, with surgery typically requiring the longest recovery time and non-surgical treatments usually requiring a much shorter recovery time.
