What to Expect During Your Internship
When you enter into a dog training internship, you’ll be expected to learn the basics of the profession. This may include the fundamentals of canine behavior and body language, how to read and respond to different behaviors, and how to create an effective training plan for each dog. You’ll also be expected to observe and participate in live training sessions with a variety of breeds and temperaments. As you gain more experience, you may even be asked to lead and teach classes of your own.
Your internship should also give you the opportunity to learn about the different types of training methods, such as positive reinforcement, clicker training, and operant conditioning. You’ll also gain experience in the business side of dog training, including marketing and customer relations. And depending on the internship program, you may even have the chance to get certified by a recognized organization.
