Essential Oils For Vestibular Disease In Dogs: A Natural Solution In 2023

Vestibular disease in dogs is a debilitating condition that affects their balance and ability to move. It is the result of the disruption of the vestibular system, which is responsible for balance and spatial orientation. Symptoms of the disease include head tilt, circling, loss of balance, and nystagmus. Treatment options can vary depending on the underlying cause, but it is becoming increasingly popular to use natural remedies such as essential oils to treat vestibular disease in canines.

What Are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are highly concentrated plant extracts that contain healing compounds, such as terpenes and phytochemicals, which are found naturally in plants. Essential oils are used in aromatherapy and other forms of holistic healing and have been used for centuries to treat a variety of ailments. They are now being used to treat vestibular disease in canines as well.

Essential Oils For Vestibular Disease In Dogs

Essential oils have been found to be beneficial in treating vestibular disease in dogs. Some of the most common essential oils used for this purpose include lavender, chamomile, and peppermint. These oils help to reduce inflammation, reduce stress and anxiety, and promote relaxation. They can also be used to help reduce the symptoms of the disease, such as head tilt, circling, and loss of balance. Essential oils can be used topically, either diluted in a carrier oil or applied directly to the skin, or aromatically, through inhalation.

Is It Safe To Use Essential Oils Around Dogs?

Although essential oils can be beneficial for treating vestibular disease in dogs, it is important to use them with caution. Essential oils should never be used neat, or undiluted, on dogs. They should always be diluted in a carrier oil, such as coconut oil or almond oil, before being applied to the skin. Aromatically, essential oils should be diffused in a well-ventilated area and the concentration should be kept to a safe level. It is important to use only high-quality, therapeutic-grade essential oils and to consult a veterinarian before using any essential oils on a dog.

Conclusion

Essential oils can be a safe and natural way to treat vestibular disease in dogs. They have anti-inflammatory, stress-relieving, and calming properties that can help to reduce the symptoms of the disease. However, it is important to use them with caution and to consult a veterinarian before beginning any treatment. With proper use, essential oils can be a safe and effective way to treat vestibular disease in canines in 2023.
