Therapy Dogs of Vermont (TDV) is an organization that is dedicated to providing comfort and healing to those in need. Their mission is to bring emotional support, comfort and companionship to those in need of emotional healing and physical recovery. TDV was founded in 2018 in Burlington, Vermont, with the purpose of providing therapy dogs to hospitals, nursing homes, and other places of healing and recovery. Since its inception, TDV has grown to serve over 100 clients throughout Vermont and the surrounding states.
The Benefits of Therapy Dogs
Therapy dogs are known to provide a range of emotional, physical, and psychological benefits, including reducing stress and anxiety, increasing social interaction, providing comfort and companionship, and helping to reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness. In addition, therapy dogs can help to reduce pain and promote healing. TDV believes that the presence of a therapy dog can help to improve the quality of life by providing emotional and physical comfort.

The Dogs of TDV
The dogs that TDV works with are carefully screened and chosen for their temperament and adaptability. All of the dogs must pass a health and behavior evaluation before they can become therapy dogs. Once the dogs are approved, they must complete a series of training classes and tests before they can become certified. TDV only works with certified therapy dogs and their handlers who are certified by the organization.
Becoming a Member of TDV
The TDV organization is open to all individuals interested in becoming a therapy dog handler or volunteering. Those interested in becoming a therapy dog handler must complete an application, pass a background check, and complete an interview and evaluation.
